Notes taken from video tape conversation with Hubert Noack on 8-16-1986
"Moved from Clifton in Nov 1907. Stayed with Weisers in small house 1mile East and 1/4th mile North from Zion L. Church till could build ownhouse. Hilschers also moved in. Weisers plus 9 Ws and 5 Hs was crowded.Men slept in the barn. A snowstorm cane up, blew snow on them so thatnext morning everything was white except where heads were. Could not getpossession of farm till Jan 10. John W. ordered traincar load oflumber. Built home for Hilschers-perhaps on same section but East of Ws.
Moved into 2 room house down by the windmill. This was in a low spot soin 1910 loaded the house on wagons and moved to present location. Alsoadded on two rooms. In 1915 added porch, cistern and silo. BoughtMaxwell in 1916. Father died in 1928 so EEW started farming.
In Clifton there were lots of trees for kindling and firewood, none inVernon so John W. had to go to Waggoner Ranch to get mesquite wood.Mother and two brothers had tried to start cooking fire with grass butall went to bed hungry. Late at night Daddy came in, built fire so couldeat.
Bought first tractor in 1940 but kept 4 horses. Electricity came in 1939or 1943.
Mother had 1924 Buick Touring Car. Bought this from her. Erna Ruth hadpneumonia as a small child and had to take her to doctor severaltimes-not good in open touring car. Bought sedan body for $20 or $25.replaced touring car body. Later traded for used Che vie with HenryBorchardt, Crowell.
When Ernest and Gertrude both farmed using teams car was driven to fieldand kids stayed in it.
Front fence was built and 1 coat of paint on it when Daddy died Jan 1928of cancer of jaw.
Brother Carl had rented 35 acres from Wilhelm Schur. Planted corn. Verywet year and could not harvest till ground froze. Then used light wagonand worked mornings till corn gathered. Carl and Lydia got married. Thenext morning they got on the wagon of corn and drove to the farm inOklaunion to live.
Ernst and Gertrude drove to Carlsbad Caverns for honeymoon. They leftafter wedding and drove part ways. Drove in the next day and got upearly for tour of caverns. Because of time change they were 1 1/2 hoursearly. Spent that night at Carlsbad and then drove home.
